prasāditaś ca vai pūrvaṃ tvaṃ me bahutithaṃ prabho | gamanaṃ vanavāsasya kāṅkṣitaṃ hi saha tvayā || 2.29.14 ||
O lord, long ago you were gracious to me for a long time as I pleaded, for I had indeed desired to go with you to the forest.
Pleased with my long entreaties in the past to dwell with you in the forest, O lord, you had granted my desire.
Dharma is reinforced through consistency and keeping one’s granted assent: Sītā recalls Rāma’s earlier favor as a moral basis for her present request.
Sītā argues that accompanying Rāma is not new; it aligns with her long-standing wish previously acknowledged by him.
Constancy (sthāyitva)—Sītā’s enduring commitment to shared life and shared duty.
