Shloka 2.26.36

अयोध्याकाण्डे षड्विंशः सर्गः — Rama’s Departure and Sita’s Questions; Disclosure of Exile and Counsel on Courtly Conduct

औरसानपि पुत्रान्हि त्यजन्त्यहितकारिणः।समर्थान्सम्प्रगृह्णन्ति जनानपि नराधिपाः।।।।

vipriyaṃ na ca kartavyaṃ bharatasya kadācana |

sa hi rājā prabhuś caiva deśasya ca kulasya ca ||

Never do anything displeasing to Bharata; for he is now the king and the rightful lord of both the realm and the royal lineage.

Kings abandon (even) their own sons if they are harmful and receive capable people even if they are strangers.

Dharma includes honoring legitimate authority and avoiding actions that disrupt governance and family order.

With Rāma departing, Bharata is treated as the ruling authority; Rāma instructs Sītā to align her conduct accordingly.

Respect for rightful rule and restraint in conduct—placing stability and duty above personal emotion.
