अहं चापि प्रतिज्ञां तां गुरोस्समनुपालयन्।वनमद्यैव यास्यामि स्थिरा भव मनस्विनी।।।।
ahaṃ cāpi pratijñāṃ tāṃ guroḥ samanupālayan |
vanam adyaiva yāsyāmi sthirā bhava manasvini ||
I too, in order to uphold my father’s pledge, will go to the forest this very day; be steadfast, O strong-minded one.
I am leaving for the forest right away for fulfilling my father's pledge. O high-minded Sita! be steady.
Satya as dharma in action: a pledged word must be honored, and a son safeguards the father’s moral integrity by accepting hardship.
