लक्ष्मणक्रोधः—दैवपुरुषकारविवादः (Lakshmana’s Wrath and the Debate on Destiny vs Human Effort)
अद्य मेऽस्त्रप्रभावस्य प्रभावः प्रभविष्यति।राज्ञश्चाप्रभुतां कर्तुं प्रभुत्वं तव च प्रभोः।।।।
agrahastaṃ vidhunvaṃs tu hastī hastam ivātmanaḥ |
tiryag-ūrdhvaṃ śarīre ca pātayitvā śirodharām ||
agrākṣṇā vīkṣamāṇas tu tiryag bhrātaram abravīt |
Shaking his forearm like an elephant lifting its trunk, and jerking his neck side-to-side and up-and-down, Lakshmana cast a sharp, slanting glance at his brother and spoke.
O Lord! today you shall see the power of my glorious weapons in depriving the king (Dasaratha) of his authority and establishing your supremacy over the kingdom.
The verse frames Lakshmana’s intense emotional response as a prelude to a dharma-debate: how a younger brother should react when he believes injustice threatens the rightful order.
In Ayodhya, after the exile decision, Lakshmana becomes visibly agitated and is about to address Rama with forceful counsel.
Lakshmana’s fierce loyalty and protective devotion to Rama, expressed as uncompromising readiness to act.
