अभिषेकसज्जा तथा सुमन्त्रस्य प्रेषणम् (Coronation Preparations and Sumantra’s Commission)
उपस्थितैरञ्जलिकारकैश्चसोपायनैर्जानपदैर्जनैश्च।कोट्या परार्धैश्च विमुक्तयानैःसमाकुलं द्वारपथं ददर्श।।2.15.46।।
upasthitair añjalikārakaiś ca sopāyanaiḥ jānapadair janaiś ca |
koṭyā parārdhaiś ca vimuktayānaiḥ samākulaṃ dvārapathaṃ dadarśa || 2.15.46 ||
He saw the approach to the gateway packed with people—villagers and townsmen in countless multitudes—some having stepped down from their vehicles, some with palms folded in reverence, and others arriving with gifts in hand.
He saw villagers and others in crores and parardhas, leaving their chariots and thronging the gateway, (some) paying obeisance with folded palms and (some) carrying gifts in their hands.
Collective respect for righteous leadership and sacred duty: people approach with humility (añjali) and offerings, showing that public life in the Rāmāyaṇa is shaped by reverence, gratitude, and orderly participation in dharmic occasions.
A major movement is underway at Rāma’s residence/royal precincts: crowds of villagers and citizens gather at the gateway, many leaving their vehicles and approaching on foot with greetings and gifts.
The people’s virtue of devotion and maryādā (propriety): they approach respectfully, indicating social harmony and shared commitment to dharmic order.
