सत्यपाशः — Kaikeyi’s Demand and the Noose of the King’s Promise
गता भगवती रात्रिः कृतं कृत्यमिदं तव।।।।बुद्ध्यस्व नृपशार्दूल कुरु कार्यमनन्तरम्।उदतिष्ठत रामस्य समग्रमभिषेचनम्।।।।
gatā bhagavatī rātriḥ kṛtaṃ kṛtyam idaṃ tava.
The sacred night has passed; what was to be done on your part up to this point has been accomplished.
O best among kings the holy night has passed. Having been acquainted with the acts accomplished so far, perform whatever is further necessary for the installation ceremony. All preparations for Rama's coronation ceremony have since been complete.
Dharma here is timely fulfillment of one’s appointed duty—recognizing that the proper time has arrived and that the king’s responsibilities must proceed without delay.
At daybreak, Sumantra addresses Daśaratha, indicating that the night has ended and that the prior arrangements have been completed.
Sumantra’s ministerial competence and sense of propriety—he marks time correctly and frames the king’s actions as duty (kṛtya).
