अयोध्याकाण्डे एकादशोत्तरशततमः सर्गः (Sarga 111: Counsel on Gurus, Parental Debt, and Bharata’s Protest)
स तु राममवेक्षन्तं सुमन्त्रं पेक्ष्य दुर्मनाः।कुशोत्तरमुपस्थाप्य भूमावेवाऽस्तरत्स्वयम्।।।।
sa tu rāmam avekṣantaṃ sumantraṃ prekṣya durmanāḥ | kuśottaram upasthāpya bhūmāv evāstarat svayam ||
Troubled at heart, Bharata saw Sumantra watching Rāma for instructions; then Bharata himself brought a spread of kuśa grass and laid it out upon the ground.
Bharata was mentally disturbed saw Sumantra waiting for Rama's order. Then he himself brought a heap of kusa grass and spread it on the ground.
Dharma is shown as action, not only speech: Bharata demonstrates commitment through conduct (personally laying out the kuśa), making his plea a lived vow.
As Rama’s party watches, Bharata prepares the kuśa mat himself, signaling he is about to lie down in protest.
Earnestness and humility—Bharata does not delegate the act; he performs it himself.
