Though the king met them all in battle, he was driven into exile. He then dwelt in a lovely mountain region, content and serene, like a sage (muni).

Although king Asita engaged all of them in a battle, he was (defeated and) driven into exile. He retired to a delightful, tall mountain and lived a life of contentment of a sage.

Dharma includes resilience: when worldly power is lost, one may still uphold inner discipline and live with contentment rather than bitterness.

Asita is defeated and exiled; he withdraws to a mountain and adopts a sage-like, restrained life.

Stoic composure and self-control—turning misfortune into a life of restraint and contemplation.
