भरतस्य प्रार्थना—रामस्य कालधर्मोपदेशः (Bharata’s Petition and Rama’s Instruction on Time and Mortality)

तमेवं दुःखितं प्रेक्ष्य विलपन्तं यशस्विनम्।रामः कृतात्मा भरतं समाश्वासयदात्मवान्।।2.105.14।।

Seeing Bharata—illustrious yet overwhelmed with sorrow and lamenting—Rama, steadfast in resolve and self-possessed, consoled him.

Having seen the illustrious Bharata lamenting that way, Rama, a man of firm determination and self-possession, consoled him thus:

R
Rama
B
Bharata

Dharma is upheld with compassion: steadiness of mind (self-control) is paired with the duty to console and guide those in distress.

After Bharata’s intense lament and appeal, Rāma responds not with anger or triumph but by reassuring him.

Rāma’s self-mastery (ātma-vattā) and empathetic leadership—he remains calm and supports Bharata emotionally.
