There he embraced some of the men, while others bowed in salutation; and the prince then greeted and honored all—friends and kinsmen of his own age—according to what was fitting for each.

Dharma as propriety (yathārham): Rāma gives each person fitting respect—balancing affection and formal honor according to relationship and social duty.

On meeting the crowd, Rāma responds in culturally appropriate ways—embracing some, accepting salutations from others, and honoring his peers and relatives.

Maryādā (decorum) and saṃgraha (gracious inclusion): he maintains right conduct toward all even in personal crisis.
