“Have you attained the disciplines of self-restraint? Has your mind found peace? And, O gentle-spoken one, has your devoted service to your teacher borne its proper fruit?”

Both reached the beautiful hermitage full of many kinds of trees. There they saw Sabari, and went towards her.

Dharma as disciplined living and reverence for the guru: self-restraint, mental peace, and faithful service to one’s teacher are presented as the foundations of a truthful, mature spiritual life.

Rāma continues his respectful inquiry, asking whether Śabarī has achieved niyama, inner calm, and success through guru-service.

Śabarī’s ideal of discipleship is foregrounded through Rāma’s questions—highlighting obedience, service, and cultivated serenity.
