जटायुनिर्वाणसंस्कारः — Jatayu’s Final Testimony and Funeral Rites

परिश्रान्तस्य मे तात पक्षौ छित्वा स राक्षसः।सीतामादाय वैदेहीं प्रयातो दक्षिणां दिशम्।।।।

pariśrāntasya me tāta pakṣau chitvā sa rākṣasaḥ |

sītām ādāya vaidehīṃ prayāto dakṣiṇāṃ diśam ||

O child, when I was worn out, that rākṣasa cut off my wings and, taking Sītā of Videha, went away toward the southern quarter.

O my child ! when I was exhausted, that demon cut off my wings and carried Sita off in the southern direction.

Jatāyu

Sītā

Vaidehī (Videha)
R
Rāvaṇa (implied as the rākṣasa)

Truthful testimony in the service of righteousness: even in suffering, Jatāyu speaks plainly to aid Rāma in restoring dharma after an adharma act (abduction).

After battling the abductor, the wounded Jatāyu reports to Rāma that Sītā was carried south after his wings were cut.

Jatāyu’s courage and integrity—he fought to protect Sītā and then gives accurate information despite exhaustion and injury.
