लक्ष्मणोपदेशः — Lakshmana Consoles Rama on Fate, Fortitude, and Right Action
यदि दुःखमिदं प्राप्तं काकुत्स्थ न सहिष्यसे।प्राकृतश्चाल्पसत्त्वश्च इतरः कस्सहिष्यति।।3.66.5।।
duḥkhito hi bhavān lokāṁs tejasā yadi dhakṣyate |
ārtāḥ prajā naravyāghra kva nu yāsyanti nirvṛtim || 3.66.6 ||
For if you, in grief, were to scorch the worlds with your splendor, O tiger among men, where would the afflicted people find peace?
O Rama, if you cannot bear this sorrow that has befallen you, how can weak and ordinary persons endure (such suffering)?
Dharma of restraint in power: a great person’s tejas must be governed, so that the innocent are not harmed by the ruler’s private grief.
