रामक्रोधवर्णनम् — Lakshmana’s Counsel to the Enraged Rama

न चेत्साम्ना प्रदास्यन्ति पत्नीं ते त्रिदशेश्वराः।।।।कोसलेन्द्र ततः पश्चात्प्राप्तकालं करिष्यसि।

Rāma, scorched by anguish and wasted by Sītā’s abduction, seemed like the cosmic fire of dissolution—poised to bring the worlds to ruin.

O lord of Kosala! when gods do not restore Sita on request, then you can think of taking action at the appropriate time.

Even righteous heroes can be overwhelmed by grief; Dharma later demands that such grief be governed so it does not turn into destructive rage against the innocent.

Immediately after Sītā is abducted, Rāma is depicted in an apocalyptic state of sorrow and anger.

By contrast (and as groundwork for Lakṣmaṇa’s counsel), the virtue highlighted is the need for self-restraint (dama) even in extreme suffering.
