Shloka 3.63.3
सीतावियोगे रामविलापः — Rama’s Lament in Separation from Sita
न मद्विधो दुष्कृतकर्मकारी मन्ये द्वितीयोऽस्ति वसुन्धरायाम्।शोकेन शोको हि परम्पराया मा मेति भिन्दन्हृदयं मनश्च।।।।
pūrvaṃ mayā nūnam abhīpsitāni pāpāni karmāṇy asakṛt kṛtāni |
tatrāyam adyāpatito vipāko duḥkhena duḥkhaṃ yad ahaṃ viśāmi ||
Surely in the past I repeatedly committed sinful deeds—deeds I even desired; and now their consequence has fallen upon me, for I am entering sorrow upon sorrow.
I think there is none on earth like me who has performed such forbidden acts. One grief after the other is successively piercing my heart and my mind.
Dharma is presented as moral causality: actions (karma) mature into results (vipāka). The teaching is to restrain desire for wrong acts, because consequences arrive inevitably.
In the wake of Sita’s abduction, Rama interprets his suffering as the ripening of earlier wrongdoing and expresses a chain of grief.
Conscience and repentance—Rama’s willingness to read adversity as a moral warning rather than mere bad luck.
