As Rāma hastened back, his left eye throbbed violently; he stumbled, and a tremor rose through his body.

As Rama was returning( to the hermitage), his left eye throbbed repeatedly and he stumbled and his body trembled.

R
Rama

In the context of ancient Indian 'Shakuna Shastra' (science of omens), the throbbing of the left eye for a male is considered an inauspicious sign (apashakuna), indicating impending danger or bad news. Here, it foreshadows the abduction of Sita.

The verse illustrates the connection between the physical world and cosmic order (Rta). Even an avatar like Rama is shown subject to the signs of nature, highlighting the inevitability of the narrative's tragic turn which is essential for the eventual re-establishment of Dharma through Ravana's defeat.
