षष्ठस्सर्गः — तपस्विरक्षणे राजधर्मोपदेशः (Sarga 6: The Sages’ Appeal and Instruction on Royal Duty)
एहि पश्य शरीराणि मुनीनां भावितात्मनाम्।हतानां राक्षसैर्घोरैर्बहूनां बहुधा वने।।।।
ehi paśya śarīrāṇi munīnāṃ bhāvitātmanām |
hatānāṃ rākṣasairghorairbahūnāṃ bahudhā vane ||
Come and behold the bodies of the many contemplative sages, realized in the Supreme Self, slain in various ways by terrible rākṣasas in this forest.
Come and see the bodies of ascetics, who had perceived the Supreme Spirit, killed in large numbers in the forest by the fierce demons.
The sages displayed the remains of the slaughtered ascetics to highlight the extreme violation of Dharma occurring in the forest and to invoke Rama's duty (Kshatriya Dharma) to protect the defenseless against the aggression of the Rakshasas.
The term 'bhavitatmanam' refers to those whose souls have been purified or who have realized the Supreme Spirit. It emphasizes that the victims were not merely forest dwellers, but highly evolved spiritual beings, making their murder a grave sin against the cosmic order.
