अरण्यकाण्डे एकोनषष्टितमः सर्गः — Maricha’s Mimic Cry and the Rama–Lakshmana–Sita Confrontation
स्फुरते नयनं सव्यं बाहुश्च हृदयं च मे।दृष्ट्वा लक्ष्मण दूरे त्वां सीताविरहितं पथि।।।।
sarvathā tv avinītaṃ te sītayā yat pracoditaḥ |
krodhasya vaśam āpanno nākaroḥ śāsanaṃ mama ||
In every way this was improper on your part: provoked by Sītā, you fell under the sway of anger and did not carry out my command.
O Lakshmana, as I saw you from a distance without Sita, my left eye, my shoulder and my heart throbbed.
Dharma is obedience joined with self-mastery: righteous action requires control over anger and fidelity to rightful instruction, even when provoked.
Rama judges Lakṣmaṇa’s departure from Sītā as a failure to follow orders, attributing it to anger and agitation.
The virtue emphasized is discipline (vinaya) and command-respect; Rama presents these as essential to dharmic conduct.
