अरण्यकाण्डे एकोनषष्टितमः सर्गः — Maricha’s Mimic Cry and the Rama–Lakshmana–Sita Confrontation

एवमुक्ता तु वैदेही परिमोहितचेतना।उवाचाश्रूणि मुञ्चन्ती दारुणं मामिदं वचः।।।।

evam uktā tu vaidehī parimohita-cetanā | uvāca aśrūṇi muñcantī dāruṇaṃ mām idaṃ vacaḥ ||

Though spoken to thus, Vaidehī—her mind clouded—shed tears and spoke these harsh words to me.

Deluded by her senses, Vaidehi said these words, shedding tears when I tried toconsole her:

V
Vaidehī (Sītā)
L
Lakṣmaṇa (implied by 'mām')

The verse highlights how grief can cloud discernment; Dharma requires clarity and restraint in speech, especially when judging the intentions of the righteous.

After Lakṣmaṇa’s attempt to console her, Sītā—overwhelmed—responds in tears and begins accusing him.

Implicitly, the need for patience and forbearance in the face of unjust words—Lakṣmaṇa is positioned to endure and still act rightly.
