सीतावियोगे रामस्य विलापः — Rama’s Lament and Inquiry on Sita’s Disappearance
यदि जीवति वैदेही गमिष्याम्याश्रमं पुनः।सुवृत्ता यदि वृत्ता प्राणांस्त्यक्ष्यामि लक्ष्मण।।।।
yadi jīvati vaidehī gamiṣyāmy āśramaṃ punaḥ |
suvṛttā yadi vṛttā prāṇāṃs tyakṣyāmi lakṣmaṇa ||
Lakshmana, only if Vaidehi lives will I return again to the hermitage; but if that virtuous lady has perished, I will relinquish my life.
O Lakshmana, only if Vaidehi is alive will I enter the cottage again or else I will give upmy life if that virtuous lady is no more.
It underscores the sanctity of marital commitment; Rama frames life itself as secondary to righteous union and responsibility toward Sita.
Rama is searching for Sita; he declares he cannot resume normal life in the forest if she is not alive.
Unshakeable loyalty and single-hearted resolve, though expressed through extreme grief.
