(After Maricha’s Slaying: Omens, Anxiety, and Rama’s Rebuke of Lakshmana)

Surely, together with the rākṣasas, Sītā’s death has been desired and planned. For Mārīca, having become a golden deer, drew me away from the hermitage (āśrama).

'Hence the murder of Sita must have been jointly planned by the demons. Maricha who had assumed the form of a golden deer, took me away from the hermitage to a far-off place where, killed by my arrows, he turned a demon uttering the words, Alas, Lakshmana, I am killed.

Dharma includes accountability: Rāma recognizes how removing the protector from the protected creates moral peril, and he reads the situation as an organized assault on the innocent.

Rāma concludes that the golden-deer episode was designed to pull him away from the āśrama so Sītā could be targeted.

Moral clarity and protective intent—Rāma quickly identifies the injustice directed at Sītā.
