Shloka 3.55.33

रावणस्य सीताप्रलोभनम् (Ravana’s Attempt to Allure Sita)

ध्यायन्तीं तामिवास्वस्थां दीनां चिन्ताहतप्रभाम्।उवाच वचनं पापो रावणो राक्षसेश्वरः।।3.55.33।।

dhyāyantīṃ tām ivāsvasthāṃ dīnāṃ cintā-hata-prabhām | uvāca vacanaṃ pāpo rāvaṇo rākṣaseśvaraḥ || 3.55.33 ||

Seeing her as though sunk in thought—unwell, forlorn, her radiance dulled by anxiety—the sinful Rāvaṇa, lord of the rākṣasas, spoke to her again.

While Sita was lost in thought, feeling ill at lase, looking wretched with her beauty dulled by her anxiety, the sinful lord of the demons continued :

It highlights the ethical wrong of exploiting another’s vulnerability; dharma forbids pressing advantage when someone is distressed and unfree.

The narration describes Sītā’s weakened, anxious state and notes that Rāvaṇa persists in addressing her despite her visible suffering.

Sītā’s mental steadfastness is suggested—she is inwardly fixed on her rightful path, even as her outer radiance is diminished by worry.
