रावणस्य सीताप्रलोभनम् (Ravana’s Attempt to Allure Sita)
इह माल्यानि सर्वाणि दिव्यगन्धानि मैथिलि।।3.55.28।।भूषणानि च मुख्यानि सेवस्व च मया सह।।
iha mālyāni sarvāṇi divya-gandhāni maithili ||3.55.28||
bhūṣaṇāni ca mukhyāni sevasva ca mayā saha ||
Here are all garlands of divine fragrance, O Maithilī; and the finest ornaments as well—wear and enjoy them here with me.
O princess from Mithila, put on all garlands of wonderful fragrance and finest of jewels here with me.
Dharma is not for sale: material gifts cannot justify betrayal of truth, vows, and rightful marital fidelity.
Rāvaṇa continues persuasion by offering luxury—fragrant garlands and precious ornaments—to entice Sītā.
Aparigraha-like restraint and moral steadfastness—Sītā’s refusal to be swayed by wealth.
