सीतारावणसंवादः — Ravana Reveals Himself; Sita Affirms Rama’s Dharma
इति ब्रुवाणां कैकेयीं श्वशुरो मे स मानदः।।3.47.9।।अयाचतार्थैरन्वर्थैर्न च याञ्चां चकार सा।
iti bruvāṇāṃ kaikeyīṃ śvaśuro me sa mānadaḥ | ayācatārthair anvarthair na ca yāñcāṃ cakāra sā || 3.47.9 ||
As Kaikeyī spoke thus, my father-in-law—the honorable king—offered her fitting riches; yet she did not accept the offer.
The king, my father-in-law, who respected her offered riches. Which she did not accept.
It underscores how dharma-based governance can be destabilized when negotiation fails and demands become absolute rather than reasonable.
The king tries to avert the crisis by offering wealth, but Kaikeyī refuses, insisting on her demanded boons.
The king’s conciliatory, respectful approach (mānada) is emphasized, though it proves ineffective against rigid insistence.
