मारीचवधः — The Slaying of Maricha (Golden Deer Deception)

आसीत् क्रुद्धस्तु काकुत्स्थो विवशस्तेन मोहितः।अथावतस्थे संभ्रान्तश्चायामाश्रित्य शाद्वले।।।।

āsīt kruddhastu kākutstho vivaśastena mohitaḥ | athāvatasthe saṃbhrāntaśchāyāmāśritya śādvale ||

Deluded by that [deer], Kakutstha (Rāma) grew weary, perplexed, and angry. Bewildered, he paused, seeking shade upon a grassy spot.

Deluded by that deer, Rama got tired, perplexed and angry. Then bewidered, he waited on a grassland under a shade.

Rama is described as 'mohitaḥ' because he was entranced by the supernatural beauty and elusive behavior of the golden deer, which was actually the demon Maricha in disguise. This illustrates the power of Maya (illusion) to affect even the wise.

Rama's action of resting in the shade on the grass signifies his physical exhaustion ('vivaśaḥ') from the futile chase. It represents the moment of pause before he decides to use his divine weapon to slay the deer, shifting from the desire to capture it alive to the necessity of eliminating the threat.
