मारीचप्रलोभनम् / Ravana Solicits Maricha’s Aid (Golden Deer Stratagem)
खरश्च निहतस्सङ्ख्ये दूषणश्च निपातितः।हतश्च त्रिशिराश्चापि निर्भया दण्डकाः कृताः।।।।
kharaś ca nihataḥ saṅkhye dūṣaṇaś ca nipātitaḥ | hataś ca triśirāś cāpi nirbhayā daṇḍakāḥ kṛtāḥ ||
Khara was slain in battle, and Dūṣaṇa was struck down; Triśiras too was killed—and thus the dwellers of the Daṇḍaka forest were made fearless.
Khara, Dusana and Trisira were killed in war.The residents of Dandaka forest are rendered safe and fearless.
Righteous force is justified when it removes terror and restores safety; dharma here is the re-establishment of fearlessness for the innocent.
The verse lists the principal rākṣasa leaders defeated by Rāma and the resulting peace in the Dandaka region.
Protective kingship in action: the hero’s duty is measured by the security it brings to society.
