Shloka 3.30.35

खरवधः — The Slaying of Khara (Janasthana Battle Climax)

अर्धाधिकमुहूर्तेन रामेण निशितैश्शरैः।।3.30.34।।चतुर्दशसहस्राणि रक्षसां भीमकर्मणाम्।खरदूषणमुख्यानां निहतानि महाहवे।।3.30.35।।

caturdaśa-sahasrāṇi rakṣasāṃ bhīma-karmaṇām | khara-dūṣaṇa-mukhyānāṃ nihatāni mahāhave || 3.30.35 ||

In that great battle, fourteen thousand rākṣasas—men of dreadful deeds, led by Khara and Dūṣaṇa—were slain.

'In a little more than half a moment of this great war Rama had accomplished the terrific task of killing with sharp darts fourteen thousand demons, led by Khara and Dusana.

Dharma is shown as the protection of the innocent and the restraint of violent wrongdoing; the rākṣasas’ destructive conduct is checked so that righteous life (especially the sages’ tapas and safety) can continue.

After the clash in Daṇḍakāraṇya, the text summarizes the scale of Rāma’s victory: the demon host led by Khara and Dūṣaṇa has been annihilated.

Rāma’s valor and effectiveness in fulfilling kṣatriya responsibility—decisive action taken to uphold order against forces of adharma.
