खरसेनासङ्ग्रामः — The Battle with Khara’s Host at the Hermitage

ते रामे शरवर्षाणि व्यसृजन् रक्षसां गणाः।।।।शैलेन्द्रमिव धाराभिर्वर्षमाणा वलाहकाः।

te rāme śara-varṣāṇi vyasṛjan rakṣasāṃ gaṇāḥ |

śailendram iva dhārābhir varṣamāṇā valāhakāḥ ||

The demon-battalions poured a rain of arrows upon Rama, like clouds showering torrents upon a lordly mountain.

The battalions of demons sent down streams of arrows on Rama just like clouds downpour on mountains.

Dharma is tested under assault: righteous defense must endure overwhelming aggression without abandoning duty.

Khara’s forces begin the attack, launching dense volleys of arrows at Rama.
