महोत्पात-लक्षणानि (Omens before Khara’s Assault)
तान्समीक्षय महोत्पातानुत्थितान्रोमहर्षणान्।।।।अब्रवीद्राक्षसान्सर्वान्प्रहसन्सखरस्तदा।
sāsrā sampadyatē dṛṣṭiḥ paśyamānasya sarvataḥ | lalāṭē ca rujā jātā na ca mōhān nyavartata ||
As he looked about on every side, his sight filled with tears and a pain arose in his forehead; yet, driven by delusion, he did not turn back.
Looking at these dreadful, horripilating occurrences Khara laughed and said to the demons:
Dharma requires clarity and restraint; moha (delusion) clouds discernment and prevents timely withdrawal from unrighteous action.
After ominous signs, Khara experiences bodily and emotional disturbance but still refuses to retreat.
Self-control and discernment are highlighted by contrast—Khara lacks the virtue of stepping back when warned.
