विंशः सर्गः (Sarga 20): शूर्पणखाप्रेरितराक्षसवधः — The Slaying of the Fourteen Demons Sent by Śūrpaṇakhā
निपातितान् दृश्य रणे तु राक्षसान् प्रधाविता शूर्पणखा पुनस्ततः।वधं च तेषां निखिलेन रक्षसां शशंस सर्वं भगिनी खरस्य सा।।।।
upagamya kharaṃ sā tu kiñcit saṃśuṣkaśoṇitā |
papāta punar evārtā saniryāseva sallakī ||
Coming to Khara, with her blood partly dried, she—afflicted—collapsed again, like a sallakī tree oozing resin.
When Surpanakha saw the demons fall dead on the battleground, she ran to Khara,her brother and told in detail about the death of the demons.ityārṣē śrīmadrāmāyaṇē vālmīkīya ādikāvyē araṇyakāṇḍē viṅśassargaḥ৷৷Thus ends the twentieth sarga of Aranyakanda of the holy Ramayana the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
When one chooses adharmic retaliation, suffering multiplies: the demoness’s injuries and distress foreshadow further wrongdoing rather than repentance.
Wounded Śūrpaṇakhā reaches her brother Khara and collapses from pain and shock.
The verse emphasizes vulnerability born of aggression; it indirectly commends prudence and restraint as virtues that prevent such ruin.
