Virādha-saṃvādaḥ — Encounter with Virādha in the Daṇḍakāraṇya (Aranya Kanda, Sarga 2)
स कृत्वा भैरवं नादं चालयन्निव मेदिनीम्।अङ्केनादाय वैदेहीमपक्रम्य ततोऽब्रवीत्।।।।
sa kṛtvā bhairavaṃ nādaṃ cālayann iva medinīm | aṅkenādāya vaidehīm apakramya tato 'bravīt ||
Raising a dreadful roar as though shaking the earth, he seized Vaidehī onto his lap, stepped away, and then spoke.
Making a dreadful sound, as if shaking the earth, he took Sita on his lap, stepped aside and said:
The verse shows adharma as violation—abduction and intimidation; dharma demands protection of another’s dignity and bodily safety, especially of those under one’s care.
Virādha roars, grabs Sītā, and prepares to speak, escalating the conflict into an immediate rescue crisis.
Guardianship and responsibility—Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa are implicitly called to swift protective action.
