Shloka 3.14.25
जटायुस्संवादः — Encounter with Jaṭāyu and the Genealogy of Beings (Aranyakanda 14)
तस्यास्त्वैरावतः पुत्रो लोकनाथो महागजः।मातङ्ग्या स्त्वथ मातङ्गा अपत्यं मनुजर्षभ।।3.14.25।।
tasyās tv airāvataḥ putro lokanātho mahāgajaḥ |
mātaṅgyāḥ stv atha mātaṅgā apatyaṃ manujarṣabha ||3.14.25||
From her (Irāvatī) was born Airāvata, the mighty elephant who became lord among creatures; and from Mātaṅgī, O bull among men, were born the elephants as her offspring.
O bull among men! Matangi gave birth to elephants.The mighty elephant Airavata who became the lord of the world was born to Iravati.
Legitimate greatness: even the “lordly” Airāvata is presented as arising from lineage, implying that power should be understood within lawful origins and responsibility.
The genealogy culminates in Airāvata’s birth from Irāvatī and identifies Mātaṅgī as the progenitress of elephants.
Respect for rightful order: greatness is narrated as part of an ordered cosmos rather than random force.
