putrī te vrīḍitā devī mohinī mohamāgatā | nāyāti tava sāmīpyaṃ na bhuṃkte lokagarhitā || 5 ||
Your daughter—the goddess Mohinī—has become ashamed and overcome by delusion. Branded and reproached by the world, she neither comes near you nor does she take food.
Narada (narrator in the dialogue tradition of the Purana)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: karuna
Secondary Rasa: bhayanaka
The verse highlights the inner consequence of moha (delusion): shame, withdrawal, and loss of nourishment—showing how adharma or confusion of mind leads to isolation and suffering, urging a return to clarity and dharmic steadiness.
By showing the painful effects of moha and fear of public blame, it implicitly points to bhakti as refuge—devotion steadies the mind in the Lord and restores confidence and right orientation beyond fluctuating worldly opinion.
No direct Vedanga instruction appears in this verse; the practical takeaway is ethical discipline (dharma) and mind-governance—avoiding moha that disrupts daily conduct such as proper eating, social duties, and composure.
