The Greatness of Viṣṇu
Viṣṇor Māhātmya
ये विष्णुभक्ता निष्कामा यजन्ति परमेश्वरम् । त्रिःसप्तकुलसंयुक्तास्ते यान्ति हरिमन्दिरम् ॥ ६१ ॥
ye viṣṇubhaktā niṣkāmā yajanti parameśvaram | triḥsaptakulasaṃyuktāste yānti harimandiram || 61 ||
Those devotees of Viṣṇu who, free from selfish desire, worship the Supreme Lord—together with their thrice-seven (i.e., twenty-one) generations of family—attain the abode of Hari.
Sanatkumara (teaching Narada)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
It teaches that niṣkāma (selfless) Viṣṇu-bhakti is powerful enough to grant liberation/attainment of Hari’s abode, and its merit extends beyond the individual to the devotee’s lineage.
Bhakti is presented as worship of Parameśvara without personal desire (niṣkāma). Such devotion is not merely ritual performance but an inner orientation that culminates in reaching Hari’s divine realm.
The verse primarily emphasizes bhakti-phala (the result of devotion) rather than a specific Vedāṅga; it does, however, use the ritual verb yajanti, pointing to yāga/arcana as a disciplined form of worship when performed without selfish intent.
