वेदोदितानि कर्माणि कुर्यादीश्वरतुष्टये । यथाश्रमं त्यक्तुकामः प्रान्पोति पदमव्ययम् ॥ ७६ ॥
vedoditāni karmāṇi kuryādīśvaratuṣṭaye | yathāśramaṃ tyaktukāmaḥ prānpoti padamavyayam || 76 ||
Let one perform the actions enjoined by the Veda for the Lord’s satisfaction; and, according to one’s own āśrama, when the desire for renunciation arises, one attains the imperishable state.
Sanatkumara (teaching Narada)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It teaches that Veda-enjoined duties become spiritually liberating when done to please Īśvara, and that renunciation should arise in due course according to one’s āśrama, culminating in the imperishable goal (moksha).
Bhakti is expressed here as īśvara-tuṣṭi (pleasing the Lord): ritual and duty are not merely formal acts but offerings oriented to the Lord, which purify the practitioner and mature into readiness for tyāga (renunciation).
The verse points to correct performance of Veda-prescribed karmas—implying śrauta/smārta procedure supported by Vedāṅga disciplines (especially Kalpa for ritual practice), and the āśrama framework for applying duties appropriately.
