गोषु क्षान्तो ब्रह्मचारी परनिंदाविवर्जितः । अपरिग्रहशी लश्च देवपूज्यः स नारद ॥ ६० ॥
goṣu kṣānto brahmacārī paraniṃdāvivarjitaḥ | aparigrahaśī laśca devapūjyaḥ sa nārada || 60 ||
O Nārada, one who is patient—especially in matters concerning cows—who lives in the discipline of brahmacarya, refrains from censuring others, is free from possessiveness, and is devoted to the worship of the Devas—such a person is truly worthy of reverence.
Sanatkumara (teaching Narada)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It defines the inner marks of a spiritually mature person—patience, celibate discipline, non-slander, non-possessiveness, and sincere worship—showing that purity of conduct is itself a form of dharma and a foundation for higher realization.
Bhakti is supported by character: avoiding fault-finding, restraining desire through brahmacarya, and living simply through aparigraha makes worship steady and heartfelt rather than merely external ritual.
While not a technical Vedāṅga passage, it emphasizes practical dharma required for correct ritual life—self-control, purity, and respectful conduct—without which mantra and worship lose their intended spiritual efficacy.
