The Account of the Ekādaśī Vow Observed Throughout the Twelve Months
भुक्त्वेह भोगानखिलान्यात्यंते वैष्णवं पदम् । पौषस्य शुक्लैकादश्यां पुत्रदां समुपोष्य वै ॥ ६४ ॥
bhuktveha bhogānakhilānyātyaṃte vaiṣṇavaṃ padam | pauṣasya śuklaikādaśyāṃ putradāṃ samupoṣya vai || 64 ||
Having enjoyed all pleasures here in this world, one ultimately attains the supreme abode of Viṣṇu—by duly observing the Putradā Ekādaśī fast on the bright fortnight’s eleventh day in the month of Pauṣa.
Narada (teaching within the Narada Purana’s vrata narration, traditionally framed in dialogue with Sanatkumara)
Vrata: Putradā Ekādaśī
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
It teaches that observing the Putradā Ekādaśī vow grants both worldly fulfillment and, ultimately, attainment of Viṣṇu’s supreme abode (vaiṣṇavaṃ padam), linking disciplined vrata to mokṣa.
By presenting Ekādaśī fasting as a direct devotional practice centered on Viṣṇu, it frames bhakti not only as inner faith but also as a concrete vow (vrata) that culminates in union with the Lord’s realm.
It uses calendrical/astronomical timing—Pauṣa month, śukla pakṣa, and the tithi Ekādaśī—reflecting practical Jyotiṣa-based ritual scheduling for proper vrata observance.
