The exposition of the Pañcamī vow to be observed in the twelve months
विप्रैकं भोजयेच्चापि तस्मै दत्त्वा च दक्षिणाम् । विसर्जयेत्ततः पश्चात्स्वयं भुञ्जीत वाग्यतः ॥ ५५ ॥
vipraikaṃ bhojayeccāpi tasmai dattvā ca dakṣiṇām | visarjayettataḥ paścātsvayaṃ bhuñjīta vāgyataḥ || 55 ||
One should feed a single brāhmaṇa; having given him the prescribed honorarium (dakṣiṇā), one should then respectfully send him off. After that, one may eat oneself, observing restraint of speech.
Narada
Vrata: Jayā-vrata (context)
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It teaches the correct dhārmic sequence for concluding a religious act: honor a brāhmaṇa with food and dakṣiṇā, send him off respectfully, and only then eat oneself with self-control—showing humility, gratitude, and discipline.
Though procedural, it supports bhakti by cultivating seva (service), reverence, and inner restraint; disciplined conduct (especially vāg-yama) purifies the mind, making devotion steadier and less ego-driven.
It reflects kalpa-style ritual discipline: the practical rule of sequence—bhojana, dakṣiṇā, visarjana, then one’s own meal—along with the niyama of controlled speech during sacred observances.
