The Explanation of the Twelve-Month Caturthī Vrata
नानारत्नविभूषाढ्यं प्रसन्नास्यं विचिंतयेत् । आवाहनादिभिः सर्वैरुपचारैः समर्चयेत् ॥ १३ ॥
nānāratnavibhūṣāḍhyaṃ prasannāsyaṃ viciṃtayet | āvāhanādibhiḥ sarvairupacāraiḥ samarcayet || 13 ||
One should meditate upon the deity as adorned with many jeweled ornaments and with a serene, gracious face; and then worship Him fully with all the ritual services—beginning with invocation (āvāhana) and the rest.
Narada
Vrata: Jāti-Candrodaya (contextual continuation)
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It links inner contemplation (dhyāna of the deity’s auspicious, pleasing form) with outer worship (upacāras), teaching that devotion is complete when mind and ritual action support each other.
Bhakti is expressed first by lovingly visualizing the Lord’s gracious presence and then by honoring that presence through respectful services like āvāhana and other upacāras—devotion as both remembrance and reverent offering.
Practical ritual discipline is emphasized: the ordered sequence of pūjā services (āvāhana-ādi upacāras) and correct performance of prescribed worship acts, aligning practice with śāstric procedure.
