Matsya Purana — The Syamantaka Jewel Episode and the Vrishni–Sainya Genealogies
अक्रूराद् उग्रसेनायां सुतौ द्वौ कुलवर्धनौ देववानुपदेवश्च जज्ञाते देवसंनिभौ //
akrūrād ugrasenāyāṃ sutau dvau kulavardhanau devavānupadevaśca jajñāte devasaṃnibhau //
From Akrūra, in Ugrasena’s line, two sons were born—enhancers of the family—Devavān and Upadeva, both radiant like the gods.
This verse does not address Pralaya; it functions as a genealogical record, preserving dynastic succession and memory within the Purāṇic narrative.
By praising sons as “kulavardhana” (family-enhancers), the verse reflects the Purāṇic ideal that householders and rulers sustain lineage, social order, and prosperity through righteous progeny and responsible continuity.
No Vāstu, temple architecture, or ritual procedure is specified here; the focus is strictly on lineage and the exalted status of notable descendants.
