Matsya Purana — The Syamantaka Jewel Episode and the Vrishni–Sainya Genealogies
उपलम्भः सदालम्भो वृकलो वीर्य एव च सवीतरः सदापक्षः शत्रुघ्नो वारिमेजयः //
upalambhaḥ sadālambho vṛkalo vīrya eva ca savītaraḥ sadāpakṣaḥ śatrughno vārimejayaḥ //
Upalambha, Sadālambha, Vṛkala, Vīrya, Savītara, Sadāpakṣa, Śatrughna, and Vārimejaya—these are the kings named in successive order.
This verse does not describe Pralaya; it is a genealogical name-list, preserving royal succession rather than cosmology.
Indirectly: by recording successive rulers, the text emphasizes continuity of righteous kingship (rāja-paramparā), a common Purāṇic framework for discussing dharma through exemplary lineages.
No Vāstu or ritual procedure is stated here; the verse functions as an onomastic register of kings’ names within the Matsya Purana’s dynastic narration.
