Matsya Purana — The Rite of Donating the ‘Mountain of Ghee’
वेष्टयेच्छुक्लवासोभिर् इक्षुदण्डफलादिकैः धान्यपर्वतवच्छेषं विधानमिह पठ्यते //
veṣṭayecchuklavāsobhir ikṣudaṇḍaphalādikaiḥ dhānyaparvatavaccheṣaṃ vidhānamiha paṭhyate //
One should wrap (it) with white cloths, together with sugarcane-stalks, fruits, and the like; and whatever remains should be arranged like a “mountain of grains”—such is the procedure taught here.
This verse is not about Pralaya; it preserves a practical ritual instruction—how to wrap ceremonial items with white cloth and offerings, and how to arrange the remaining materials as a symbolic ‘mountain of grains’ (dhānya-parvata).
It reflects the householder/royal duty of conducting rites correctly—especially public or domestic consecrations—using purity markers (white cloth) and auspicious abundance symbols (sugarcane, fruits, and a grain-mound).
Ritually, it prescribes specific auspicious materials and the dhānya-parvata arrangement, a prosperity symbol often used in consecration-related ceremonies associated with Vastu/installation contexts.
