Matsya Purana — The Pushkara Manifestation
विश्रान्तकवपुर्बालो विष्कम्भश्च महायशाः गरुडश्चातिसत्त्वौजा भास्करप्रतिमद्युतिः //
viśrāntakavapurbālo viṣkambhaśca mahāyaśāḥ garuḍaścātisattvaujā bhāskarapratimadyutiḥ //
He is of a well-composed, restful-bodied form; ever youthful; the mighty Support (Viṣkambha); of great renown—Garuḍa, whose vigor is exceedingly powerful, and whose radiance is like the Sun.
This verse is not about Pralaya; it functions as an iconographic/epithet list describing Garuḍa’s qualities—stability, youthful form, immense vigor, and sun-like radiance.
Indirectly, it models ideal virtues—steadiness (viṣkambha), fame earned through strength and excellence (mahāyaśas), and disciplined vitality (ojas)—qualities praised for rulers and householders in Purāṇic ethics.
Ritually and iconographically, it supports identifying Garuḍa in temple contexts: he is envisioned as youthful, powerful, and radiant like the sun—useful for Garuḍa-pratimā description and Vaiṣṇava shrine iconography.
