Matsya Purana — The Burning of Tripura and Rudra’s Victory
य इमं रुद्रविजयं पठते विजयावहम् विजयं तस्य कृत्येषु ददाति वृषभध्वजः //
ya imaṃ rudravijayaṃ paṭhate vijayāvaham vijayaṃ tasya kṛtyeṣu dadāti vṛṣabhadhvajaḥ //
Whoever recites this “Rudra-vijaya,” the bringer of victory—Vṛṣabhadhvaja (Śiva, whose banner bears the bull) grants that person success and victory in their undertakings.
This verse does not address pralaya or cosmogony; it is a phalaśruti promising victory as the result of reciting a Rudra-centered hymn.
It supports the Purāṇic ethic that righteous action is aided by devotion: a king or householder may recite the Rudra-vijaya before important duties (governance, livelihood, protection) seeking dharmic success in their kṛtyas (undertakings).
The ritual takeaway is recitation (pāṭha) as a sanctioned practice with stated results; no specific Vāstu or temple-building rule is mentioned in this verse.
