Matsya Purana — Solar–Lunar Motions
सहस्रेणातिरिक्ता च ततो ऽन्या पञ्चविंशतिः लेखयोः काष्ठयोश्चैव बाह्याभ्यन्तरयोश्चरन् //
sahasreṇātiriktā ca tato 'nyā pañcaviṃśatiḥ lekhayoḥ kāṣṭhayoścaiva bāhyābhyantarayoścaran //
A further measure exceeds it by a thousand; after that comes another of twenty-five. These are applied to the setting-out lines (lekhā) and to the kāṣṭhā, moving through both the outer and the inner parts of the layout.
This verse is not about Pralaya; it belongs to the Matsya Purana’s Vastuvidya material, describing technical increments and their use in architectural layout and woodwork.
By prescribing precise measurement practice for outer and inner building parts, it supports the king’s and householder’s duty to build orderly settlements, temples, and homes according to śāstric standards.
It highlights proportional increments (notably ‘thousand’ and ‘twenty-five’) used when drawing layout lines (lekhā) and preparing timber members (kāṣṭha), applicable to both exterior and interior planning.
