Matsya Purana — Solar Dynasty Prelude: Vivasvān–Saṃjñā–Chāyā
आराधयन्महादेवं यावद्वर्षायुतायुतम् वरं प्रादान्महादेवः संतुष्टः शूलभृत्तदा //
ārādhayanmahādevaṃ yāvadvarṣāyutāyutam varaṃ prādānmahādevaḥ saṃtuṣṭaḥ śūlabhṛttadā //
He worshipped Mahādeva for ten-thousand times ten-thousand years; then Mahādeva—the Bearer of the trident—being pleased, granted him a boon.
This verse does not describe pralaya; it emphasizes tapas (long worship) and the principle that divine grace (vara) follows sustained devotion.
It models dharmic discipline: whether king or householder, steady worship and self-control are portrayed as legitimate means to obtain divine support for righteous aims.
No architectural (Vāstu/temple-measurement) rule appears here; the ritual takeaway is the efficacy of ārādhana (propitiatory worship) culminating in the deity’s satisfaction and boon.
