Matsya Purana — Saubhagya-Śayana Vow: Lalitā/Gaurī–Śiva Worship
*मत्स्य उवाच तथैवान्यत्प्रवक्ष्यामि सर्वकामफलप्रदम् सौभाग्यशयनं नाम यत्पुराणविदो विदुः //
*matsya uvāca tathaivānyatpravakṣyāmi sarvakāmaphalapradam saubhāgyaśayanaṃ nāma yatpurāṇavido viduḥ //
Matsya said: “In the same manner, I shall now explain another observance that bestows the fruits of all desired aims—known to the knowers of the Purāṇas as ‘Saubhāgya-Śayana’ (the Bed of Auspicious Fortune).”
This verse does not describe Pralaya directly; it introduces a ritual observance (Saubhāgya-Śayana) said to grant desired results, indicating the text’s focus here is on dharma and auspicious rites rather than cosmic dissolution.
By introducing a rite that confers ‘saubhāgya’ (auspicious fortune), the verse aligns with gṛhastha-dharma: householders are guided toward disciplined observances that support prosperity, harmony, and fulfillment of legitimate aims (kāma) within dharmic bounds.
The significance is ritual rather than architectural: it announces a named observance, Saubhāgya-Śayana, framed as a recognized Purāṇic practice believed to yield broad auspicious outcomes.
