Matsya Purana — Rasakalyāṇinī Vrata: Magha-based Goddess Worship
माघमासे तु सम्प्राप्ते तृतीयां शुक्लपक्षतः प्रातर्गव्येन पयसा तिलैः स्नानं समाचरेत् //
māghamāse tu samprāpte tṛtīyāṃ śuklapakṣataḥ prātargavyena payasā tilaiḥ snānaṃ samācaret //
When the month of Māgha arrives, on the third lunar day of the bright fortnight, one should duly perform a morning bath using cow’s milk together with sesame seeds.
This verse is not about Pralaya; it prescribes a calendrical purification rite (Māgha-śukla-tṛtīyā morning bath) as part of dharmic observance.
It gives a practical dharma-duty: observing timed purification baths and vratas. Such discipline is presented as a householder’s (and by extension a ruler’s) support for personal purity and public religious order.
The significance is ritual (not architectural): a prescribed Māgha-month snāna using cow’s milk and sesame, emphasizing auspicious timing (tithi/pakṣa) and purificatory substances.
