Matsya Purana — Rasakalyāṇinī Vrata: Magha-based Goddess Worship
लवणं वर्जयेन्माघे फाल्गुने च गुडं पुनः तैलं राजिं तथा चैत्रे वर्ज्यं च मधु माधवे //
lavaṇaṃ varjayenmāghe phālgune ca guḍaṃ punaḥ tailaṃ rājiṃ tathā caitre varjyaṃ ca madhu mādhave //
In the month of Māgha one should avoid salt; in Phālguna, jaggery (guḍa); likewise in Caitra, oil and rāji (a grain/seed); and in Mādhava (Vaiśākha), honey is to be avoided.
This verse is not about Pralaya; it gives dharmic, month-wise dietary restraints (māsa-niyama) as part of vrata and self-discipline.
It prescribes regulated conduct—avoiding specific foods in specific lunar months—reflecting the Purāṇic ideal that householders (and rulers as exemplars) maintain seasonal discipline, restraint, and purity through vrata-based living.
The significance is ritual rather than architectural: month-specific abstentions function as vrata rules supporting purity and merit in religious observances; no Vastu or temple-construction detail is stated in this verse.
