Matsya Purana — Navagraha Sacrifice for Planetary Pacification and Prosperity
अन्यथा फलदं पुंसां न काम्यं जायते क्वचित् तस्मादयुतहोमस्य विधानं पूर्वमाचरेत् //
anyathā phaladaṃ puṃsāṃ na kāmyaṃ jāyate kvacit tasmādayutahomasya vidhānaṃ pūrvamācaret //
Otherwise, the desired (kāmya) rite that grants results to people does not succeed under any circumstance; therefore one should first perform, in due order, the prescribed procedure of the Ayuta-homa—the ten-thousand-offering fire rite.
This verse does not address pralaya; it teaches that ritual acts must follow the correct prescribed order for the intended spiritual or worldly result to manifest.
It frames a dharmic duty of disciplined observance: whether king or householder, one should perform wish-fulfilling rites (kāmya-karmas) only after completing the proper preliminaries—here, the ayuta-homa—so the act becomes effective and legitimate.
The significance is ritual: it emphasizes the necessity of ayuta-homa as a prerequisite procedure, implying that correct homa-vidhi (method and sequence) is essential for the efficacy of any kāmya rite.
